New User Welcome Server? - Bristem - 02-05-2025 I have been floating around the idea that there should be a streamlined welcome hub server on the server list for a while now. The purpose is to give new players a better idea of the community without relying on the unlikely event that players would actively seek out places such as discords and forums. This could include links and descriptions of said communities, and maybe some "advertisements" to show specific popular game servers, whether currently online or not. This server did not initially come to mind with the intention to connect community, but actually to give more insight into the mechanisms of the game. Without searching for external help, the in-game tutorial only showcases:
These are incredibly basic tools that do not showcase the potential that Blockland has beyond bricks. Here are some things that are barely or not at all showcased.
This is not an exhaustive list of crucial first-player info nor is everything on here a high priority learning target, but much of these are very important to the modern Blockland experience. I believe an improved, streamlined tutorial that introduces these subjects to new players would be very useful in a server such as this. I am very open to any ideas on how this could be properly formatted in a server. Any critiques and suggestions would be very appreciated along with anything to add to the list of important subjects. RE: New User Welcome Server? - Eagle517 - 02-06-2025 I think it's a great idea. New players will likely join a server before they figure out how to load the tutorial. Probably try to make it feel like a guided tour of what the game/community has to offer instead of just info dumping. Something else, from experience we've had new players stop by BCS sometimes while the server is empty. But we have a channel in our Discord server that lets players in-game talk to people in our Discord. Typically someone in our community will end up chatting with the new player and help them get a sense for where to find things. Might be worth working with a well established Discord like BCC or BLU to set something similar up. That way you don't have to constantly be on the server in-game to catch new players. If you get around to starting on this, feel free to reach out. I'd be willing to help where needed, and I'm sure someone like Jam Jar would be willing to help too.
